| A little
bit about me. . . . . . |
| I didn't start out to design
needlework; I began as a painter. From a very early age I wanted to
create something. When I was newly married I knitted, crocheted, needlepointed,
& made my own clothing. At the age of 26 I began painting, first with
oils and acrylics, until I found my true calling, watercolors. In 1979,
my husband and I opened Linda Myers Gallery in Vienna, WV, (which we
later sold) showcasing my watercolors. A year or so later, we added
a counted cross stitch shop, which is where my interest in designing
cross stitch began. I found out where I could introduce my first few
designs to the trade and began the "Art of Cross Stitch" company in
1980 and in 1992 changed the name to its present "Designs By Linda Myers".

We sell directly to shops
and catalogs and do not go through distributors. Like my watercolors,
my cross stitch designs feature quiet country landscapes and still-life
scenes, many with quilts in them. I try to tell a story with my work,
which I call "poetic realism". If my designs evoke a feeling in the
viewer of a memory of times past, or a quiet present of a simpler
life, in the midst of our present daily rush, then I have succeeded.
What I give from my heart and hand, for you the stitcher to work with
your heart and hand will somehow bind us together in our search for
the beauty of God's creation. Happy stitching, and remembering . .
